A visit to the valley of Kathmandu

The valley of Kathmandu is surrounded by high hills. It is pretty impressing when you fly in, nearly shaving the 3000m high hills south of the city. There is only a very small gorge near Chobar, where the holy river Bagmati is able to go south on its way to the Ganges. Twenty years ago, the fields begun just on the edge of Kathmandu, but nowadays nearly the whole valley is full of houses, and the little villages grew to little towns. Apart from Kathmandu there are many great places to visit, the main are surely Patan and Bhakatpur. The descriptions will follow within the next months, actually you only can visit the first pages of Kathmandu. (written June 2002)
