On this picture one can clearly see the transition of the green terai to the dry tibetan plateau. Before the proper Himalaya is the Mahabharat rang. On the left side you see the Kathmandu valley

In this enlargement you see the main trekking areas of Helambu, Langtang and Solu Khumbu ( Everest). Even from space one can seethe ridges which have to be climbed on the way from Jiri to Namche Bazar.
