NATT trail No. 43 Purang and Jharkot
When you are at the end of Jharkot you will see directly 200 m below the village of Jharkot with its remaining
fortress ruins and the big red Gompa. Jharkot is built on a ridge and a unique village. It will take you about 20 min to go down there.
If you want directly go to Jomsom by Jeep you can buy the tickets in the morning at the jeep counter and let
you pick up in Jharkot. But you must insist that you get the front seats otherwise you will be lost.
As anyway I recommend to walk to Kagbeni by the northern villages Chongur and Jhong my proposal is that
you make a lazy sightseeing day after crossing the Thorong La. In the morning you enjoy a late breakfast, maybe do some washing and visit the Muktinath temple. After a good lunch you make a walk to Jharkot by the
village of Purang. There is a nice sightseeing round tour which takes around 30 min. All in all this walk will take
you around 2-3 hours and you will be back in Ranipauwa for a tasty cake. But you mind will be full a beautiful memories.
For people who will not go to Kagbeni it would be worth to make the half day trip Muktinath temple- Chongur- Jhong-Jharkot- Ranipauwa.

Jharkot is a beautiful village still mainly built in the old style. Often Trekkers just bypass it when heading down

how to continue?
1. Walking down the dirt road is not so nice but very fast. You can reach Kagbeni in three hours and Jomsom in four.
2. You can strat from jharkot and go to Jhong and continue to Kagbeni (NATT 44)
3. if you skip Kagbeni (which i would never do!) you can go directly from Jharkot to Lupra and
then to Jomsom. i like more the trail from Jharkot than the direct one from Ranipauwa
